International Adoption Programs

Colombia
Guatemala
Peru

The process of international adoption is exciting and rewarding, but it requires commitment and can be frustrating at times. Changes in availability of adoptable children from one country to another can occur almost overnight. Due to changes in international adoption policies it is possible that even though you may begin the search for a child in one country, you may have to change course and adopt from a different country altogether. Time frames for US and Int’l. governmental procedures may change, also. Those changes cannot be anticipated or controlled by Seedlings. We will notify you of changes if and when they occur.

Risk is inherent in all types of adoption. In establishing international adoption programs, Seedlings tries to establish programs that are ethically sound and provide a maximum amount of safety and a minimum amount of risk. We maintain ongoing telephone contact with international authorities abroad governing all of our programs in order to monitor the viability of our programs, the progress of each of our adoptive families, and make accommodations for policy changes as they take place. Representatives from our agency periodically visit the countries in which we have adoption programs to meet with adoption authorities and visit orphanages.

PREPARATION OF YOUR INTERNATIONAL ADOPTION DOSSIER

If you are a full-service family, Seedlings will help you prepare your adoption dossier in accordance with the requirements of the program you have chosen at no additional cost to you. We will also prepare you for travel and your exit visa process at the US Consulate/Embassy abroad. However, all authentication fees and exit visa fees are paid by the adoptive family unless otherwise noted.

THE CRITERIA WE USE IN ESTABLISHING PROGRAMS

  1. The availability of adoptable children and the willingness of adoption authorities to allow those children to be adopted by US citizens.
  2. The projected stability and safety of adoption in that country.
  3. The health of adoptable children.
  4. The cost and time frame to complete an adoption.

If we see that the problems in a given country are beginning to outweigh the advantages of working there, we may elect to discontinue that program.

We currently have viable programs in ASIA, CENTRAL, AND SOUTH AMERICA. We work closely with other agencies that have quality adoption programs in countries where we do not have programs, as well. Travel is required for most of our international adoption programs. If you are interested in a program in a country where we do not currently work, we can complete your home study, recommend reputable agencies working in that country, and assist you in preparing your documents to meet the laws of this state, US CIS, and any specific requirements of the placing country and/or the requirements of the linking agency.
